Classic: Caesar Salad

Legend has it that once the cook Caesar Cardini ran out of all the main products exactly when a large and noisy company of filmmakers from Hollywood came to the restaurant where he worked. And then the talented cook made a salad from what was literally at hand, namely:

- romaine lettuce - 400 g;

- white bread - 100 g;

- young garlic - 1 pc.;

- olive oil - 50 g;

- chicken egg - 1 pc.;

- lemon - 1 pc.;

- Worcester sauce - a few drops;

- grated parmesan - 2 tbsp.;

- salt - to taste;

- Freshly ground black pepper - to taste.

To prepare the classic version of Caesar, gently rinse the lettuce leaves, pat dry with a paper towel and refrigerate. To make garlic croutons (crackers), take white bread (baguette), cut into small cubes and dry in the oven at 180 ° C for 10 minutes. Do not forget to mix croutons in the oven a couple of times. Then peel the garlic, crush and grind with salt. Place the garlic in a skillet, add a tablespoon of olive oil and heat over low heat, then add crackers to the pan and let it sit on the fire for a couple of minutes.

Chop the raw chicken egg from the blunt end and keep it in boiling water for one minute. Rub a salad bowl with garlic for flavor and put greens on it, then sprinkle a little with olive oil and transfer everything. Add seasonings and juice of one lemon and drip a couple of times with Worcester sauce. Mix everything again, then break the egg and pour the contents onto the salad, mix, cover the salad with grated cheese and add the garlic croutons.

Variation: Caesar Salad with Chicken

Today, Caesar salad is rarely prepared using the classic recipe: despite the excellent taste, many people prefer to add meat or even seafood to this dish. Perhaps the most popular and well-known type of Caesar salad is chicken. Ideally, such a salad should be dressed with Caesar sauce, but most people prefer to use mayonnaise at home.

- chicken fillet - 200 g;

- lettuce leaves - 20 pcs.;

- cherry tomatoes - 5 pcs.;

- white bread - 200 g;

- hard cheese - 50 g;

- garlic - 2 pcs.;

- vegetable oil - 4 tbsp;

- mayonnaise - to taste;

- salt - to taste.

Soak lettuce leaves in cold water for one hour to make them crisp and fresh. Make croutons from white bread by drying pieces of baguette in the oven. Pour oil into a deep skillet, fry peeled and minced garlic, then add croutons. To prevent them from being greasy, put them on a paper towel after frying. You can boil chicken fillet or fry until cooked in vegetable oil and cut into thin slices.

Place lettuce lettuce leaves torn by hand in a salad bowl. Grate hard cheese, cut the cherry tomatoes in half or in four. All salad ingredients are mixed in a bowl and immediately served on the table. Mayonnaise is best served separately so that everyone can season the salad to taste.

Variation: Caesar salad with shrimp

Seafood lovers prefer Caesar salad with shrimp. The list of ingredients is the same as the previous one, however, chicken meat is replaced by shrimp to taste. When preparing shrimp salad, thaw and fry in garlic butter. When dressing salad, be sure to use the juice of half a lemon - this will add nobleness to the shrimp aroma.

There is also Caesar salad with boiled shrimps, quail eggs, and smoked chicken

.

There are many options - for every taste.
