Not everyone knows that due to the low temperature, tomatoes lose their aroma and acquire a loose structure.
The fattest tomatoes with thick skin will be stored the longest.
Tomatoes can be stored in plastic boxes, but they must have trellised walls and a bottom for better ventilation. Boxes must be thoroughly washed and treated with a disinfectant. Then wrap each tomato in paper and put it in one layer in a box, sprinkle with sawdust and cover on top with another sheet of paper. Do the same with the rest of the tomatoes. Boxes are best stored in a cool, well-ventilated area. Sort tomatoes every 5-7 days. If you find a spoiled fruit without hesitation, throw it away.
There is another way - try soaking the tomatoes in a vinegar-saline solution. To do this, take 8 parts of vinegar and salt for 8 parts of water. Tomatoes can also be immersed in vegetable oil. The level of oil should rise above the tomatoes by 1-2 cm.
You can try to save not even the fruits themselves, but the bushes. Choose the strongest plants with a lot of ovaries. Dig them and place them in a room where the temperature does not exceed 12 degrees. Lay them out on the ceiling. So the fruits can persist until the New Year.
