Cut the onions into cubes and mushrooms into slices. In order for the onion to "not get into your eyes" you need to moisten the knife in water and immediately start cutting.
After that we heat the skillet and fry the onion with mushrooms in oil. Salt and pepper to taste.

I recommend leaving some potato broth in case the soup is thick for you. Just add the broth and mix. It is worth noting that after cooking it will thicken a little more.
