"Blue Lagoon" - a cocktail with a stunning name and a bewitching turquoise color. This is a classic strong alcoholic drink, back in 1961, included in the collection of recipes for official cocktails of the IBA (International Barmen Association). Cocktails on the IBA list are the most popular and sought after in the world. In order for the blue color of the Blue Lagoon Sea to play in your cocktail glass, strictly follow the recipe, which is given according to a single standard, and do not violate the volume of ingredients.

You will need

    • filter shaker
    • crushed ice
    • vodka 60 ml
    • Blue Curacao liquor 30 ml,
    • freshly squeezed lemon juice or lime juice 20 ml,
    • lemon
    • slice of pineapple or cocktail cherry for a side dish.

Instruction manual

1

Crush the ice. Fill the shaker three quarters with crushed ice.

2

Pour in vodka, Blue Curacao, freshly squeezed lemon juice.

3

Close the shaker and shake gently for 20 seconds. Do not shake too much so as not to froth the drink. The cocktail will be slightly mixed and slightly cooled with ice.

4

Filter the finished drink in two martini glasses.

5

If desired, add up to 100 milliliters of tonic or lemonade and mix. Lemonade and tonic are not provided in the classic basic version of cocktail preparation, listed in the IBA collection. However, such improvisation is allowed to dilute and soften the strong alcoholic taste of the cocktail.

6

Garnish each cocktail with a circle of lemon, a spiral of peel, cocktail cherry or a slice of pineapple. Serve right away.

7

There are many non-classical variations of the Blue Lagoon recipes. Some gourmets add Malibu (10 ml), Cointreau (10 ml), pineapple juice (20 ml) or orange juice (20 ml) to the drink. The main thing is that the result is the heady turquoise color of a tropical lagoon!

Useful advice

According to legend, this cocktail was invented by the artist Paul Gauguin. Due to worsening health conditions, doctors forbade him to drink absinthe and ordered him to leave Paris. The artist left for Tahiti. He was upset and sad. I decided to treat myself to a new alcoholic cocktail that would please the eye and be divine, but strong in taste. So an unusual cocktail of bright blue color was invented.

The second version of the history of the creation of the cocktail states that the birthplace of the drink is Paris, namely the Herris Bar, popular in the middle of the last century. The “Blue Lagoon” was invented by a guy named Andy McElton, the son and heir to the founder of Herris Bar, in 1960.
