Walnuts are a must in many desserts. And if you often cook liver, pies and cakes with toppings or decorations from nuts, your home must have a supply of peeled kernels. However, pre-peeled walnuts must be properly stored, otherwise they may lose their original taste and valuable nutritional qualities.

Instruction manual

1

Walnuts are rich in fats. This gives the kernels a delicate flavor and makes them healthy. However, it is precisely because of the high fat content that nuts quickly deteriorate, becoming an unpleasant smell and bitterness. Therefore, do not make large stocks of nuts, buying them for the future.

2

You can store both nuts in the shell and peeled. The latter is preferable - you can immediately discard damaged or spoiled copies. Choose only whole, undamaged kernels - chopped nuts and nibs are for immediate consumption, as they deteriorate very quickly. When laying nuts for storage, make sure that they are not spoiled - the kernels should smell good, have no extraneous stains and mold. Try them - the taste should not give away bitterness or musty.

3

Peeled nuts can be fried. This is especially true if you purchased kernels by weight. Pour them into a dry pan and fry them for 10-15 minutes, stirring constantly. Before storing nuts, cool them.

4

If you plan to eat walnuts for 10 days, store them in a covered glass or plastic container in a dark, cool place. Do not leave them open in rooms with high humidity - mold may come out on nuts.

5

If you do not need kernels in the near future, pack them differently. Place the nuts in a plastic container, close the lid tightly and place on the top shelf of the refrigerator. Make sure that water or other liquid does not get into the container - nuts may become moldy. In this form, the cores can be successfully stored for up to six months. Before eating, taste them - if no extraneous smacks and smells have appeared, the nuts are suitable for food.

6

Even longer - up to a year - peeled nuts are stored in the freezer. Wrap the dry kernels in cling film or foil and place in the freezer. To improve the taste, the nuts extracted from the refrigerator can be baked in a heated oven for no more than 10 minutes - they will dry out and become tastier.
