In traditional Dutch cuisine you can find several varieties of stamppots. In a broad sense, this name combines dishes that are prepared on the basis of potatoes and various types of vegetables. The main distinguishing feature is that they are served on the table in the form of beautiful pies.

You will need
- - 2 kg of cabbage
- - 1.5 kg of potatoes
- - salt
- - milk or cream
- - 600 g of cooked sausage or sausages
- - ground black pepper
- - butter or margarine
- - vegetable or olive oil
Instruction manual
1
Cut boiled sausage (or sausages) into rings and fry in olive or vegetable oil. Be sure to wait for the appearance of a brownish crust.
2
Chop the cabbage finely. Peel the potatoes and cut into cubes.
3
Pour water into a saucepan, lightly salt and add spices if desired. Put the potatoes first and then the cabbage. Cook the ingredients until cooked.
4
Mash the cabbage and mashed potatoes by adding margarine, cream or milk. The consistency of the dish should be quite dense. This is one of the features of the stamppots.
5
Put the mashed potato and cabbage in a deep container, place the cooked sausage (or sausages) prepared on top. Before serving, decorate the dish with fresh herbs.
note
Stamppots are usually prepared from two ingredients - potatoes and vegetables. You can replace cabbage with bell pepper and tomatoes, turnips and carrots or beets.
Useful advice
Knead potatoes and cabbage should not be too thorough. If the mashed potatoes turn out to be too liquid, then calling such a dish a stamppot will not work.
