Chinese actinidia was introduced to New Zealand in 1906, however, in its modern form, kiwi appeared only 73 years ago. Initially, the berry was called "Chinese gooseberry", but later it was renamed.

The plant was brought to New Zealand by Alexander Ellison, who became interested in the decorative mihutao plant due to the beautiful white flowers. Its fruits were at that time tasteless, small and tough. However, under the conditions of the New Zealand climate and thanks to the efforts of an amateur gardener, it was possible to grow a huge bush-vine, strewn with giant and very tasty berries that looked like the famous New Zealand kiwi bird. The growth rate of the plant liana reached 20 cm per day, and the crop kept up every 2 days.

They learned about the fruits of the plant in the 30s, when an industrial crisis erupted in the country. Mail clerk James McLocklin, who lost his job, decided to start growing plants. He found the same Chinese gooseberry and was the first to grow it for sale. Liana grew very fast and gave a huge harvest. Other entrepreneurs became interested in his idea and residents of all of New Zealand learned about kiwi. Today, about two billion plant fruits are sold annually in the world.

Kiwi contains a large amount of vitamins. The composition of one fetus includes 1.5 daily intake of vitamin C, carotene, vitamins B1, B2, E and PP, as well as a large amount of potassium. Berries help lower blood pressure, get rid of heartburn. Some medical studies have shown that the fruits of the plant positively affect the functioning of the heart and reduce the risk of blood clots.
