A fruit basket made from watermelon will undoubtedly decorate any table. Artistic cutting of vegetables, or carving, is becoming increasingly popular in Europe and is becoming one of my favorite hobbies for creative people.

  • - paper;

  • - scissors;

  • - various fruits.

Instruction manual

1

Lay the watermelon on a flat side so that it lies firmly on the table. If all sides are round, cut off one of the edges to make the bottom. At the same time, it is important to immediately determine where the basket will have a handle, so that it turns out smooth and beautiful, the watermelon should lie on its side, and not on the end.

2

Find the "equator" of the watermelon, for this in the center, stick the masking tape. Draw a straight line along the watermelon with a baby non-toxic felt-tip pen that is washed off with water. Find the center of the line on the sides and connect with tape, circle the pen line with a felt-tip pen.

3

Draw a patterned stencil of the pen on paper. It can be a small rhombus or a circle with a hole in the center, or any other figure. The main thing is that it is repeated along the length of the handle an integer number of times. Attach the stencil to the beginning of the pen, glue it with tape and circle it with a felt-tip pen. Then peel off, attach above and circle again. Thus draw the entire handle of the basket.

4

In the same way, create a patterned edge of the basket. Apply a stencil (the same or different) and circle it with a felt-tip pen until the entire edge becomes openwork. If necessary, the chain links may overlap slightly or, on the contrary, diverge.

5

Proceed to cutting the basket. Take a small sharp knife, preferably with cloves. Cut the watermelon on both sides along the drawn outline with sawing movements. If the pattern is too openwork, you can cut it next to the contour, leaving delicate work for later.

6

Gently scrub the watermelon under the handle, then work through the small details. Cut the teeth along the edges of the basket of watermelon, small holes, hearts, circles.

7

When the basket is ready, decorate it with fruit. You can put any fruit in the center - strawberries, grapes, slices of watermelon or melon, peaches, etc. Some fruits can decorate the handle, edges or the outer surface of the fruit basket, use toothpicks for this.
