You will need

    • 1 medium onion;
    • 1 glass of dry peas;
    • 2 glasses of water;
    • salt 0.5 tsp;
    • butter;
    • vegetable oil;
    • parsley or dill greens for decoration.

Instruction manual

1

Before you start cooking porridge, sort out the peas the day before, rinse, fill with chilled boiled water and leave to swell for at least two hours. The longer the peas are soaked, the better. For example, if you pour it in the morning, in the evening you can cook porridge.

2

Rinse the swollen peas. Then fill it with water at the rate of two glasses of water per glass of peas and put to boil. After boiling, reduce the heat to a minimum.

3

Cook pea porridge over low heat, because otherwise it may burn, and on low heat peas will retain their beneficial properties more. The duration of cooking porridge depends on the duration of soaking peas and can be from 15 to 50 minutes, until the grains burst. If the water boils, add boiling water, not cold water - it will make the peas tasteless.

4

Salt the porridge 15-30 minutes after the start of cooking, but do not overdo it, since peas are easy to salt.

5

Peel the onions, finely chop and fry in vegetable oil until golden brown.

6

If the peas fell apart, then cooking can be completed. To make the porridge thick, evaporate the excess water, add the butter and stir.

7

Thoroughly crush the porridge, add the fried onions and mix. Before serving, put in plates and garnish with parsley or dill. Pea porridge can be cooked instead of mashed potatoes and served with fried sausage, sauerkraut, gravy or salad.

Useful advice

So that when cutting onions do not pinch your eyes, moisten the knife with warm water.

You can roll the chopped onion first in flour, and then fry, so it will be light yellow in color and will not burn.

Salt the peas shortly before readiness - in salted water, it boils longer and loses taste.

You can also make pea porridge from fresh peas, in which case it does not need to be soaked, which will significantly reduce the cooking process.
