Pumpkin is a tasty and healthy vegetable, known in most countries of the world. In Russian cuisine, pumpkin is most often used for cooking soups, cereals, and is also baked in the oven. Pumpkin jam with oranges is a wonderful treat that you can add to tea or make delicious cakes with it.

    • 1 kg of pumpkin;
    • 1 kg of sugar;
    • 3 oranges;
    • 2 pinches of citric acid.

Wash the oranges thoroughly in warm water and dry them slightly with a towel. Then cut each into four parts, select the seeds and pass them together with the zest through a meat grinder or chop in a blender.

Peel the pumpkin, remove the seeds, cut into small cubes with a thickness of not more than one centimeter and put in a pan. The pan must be enameled or made of high quality stainless steel.

Carefully ensure that the flesh is not too soft, as the overripe vegetable loses its basic taste and vitamins.

Next, add the oranges passed through the meat grinder to the saucepan with the pumpkin, mix everything well, pour sugar on top.

Cover the pan and leave until juice appears. You can do this in the evening, so that a sufficient amount of juice is released during the night, and immediately begin cooking jam in the morning.

After the pumpkin gives juice, put the pan on the fire, bring the contents to a boil and boil over medium heat for 20-30 minutes. Remove the foam from the jam as it forms.

Then remove the pan from the heat and leave it for 3-4 hours to cool the jam. After this time, add citric acid to it, mix thoroughly and put on fire again.

As soon as the jam begins to boil, reduce the heat and cover. Continue cooking for 1 hour. Do not forget to stir it periodically.

Pour the prepared jam into prepared sterile jars, cover with lids and store in a cool place. Serve it with tea as a dessert with dry sponge cake or ice cream.

Useful advice

If you want pumpkin jam to be less boiled, add one cup of water to the syrup. Then pumpkin cubes will turn out more integral.
