Instruction manual

1

Butter is a product made exclusively from cow's milk or its constituent elements. The milk fat in it is necessarily 50-85%. Sometimes oil contains salt. Therefore, immediately consider the packaging, which describes the composition of the product. If coconut, palm, peanut oil or other vegetable fats, as well as milk fat substitutes are indicated there, then this is margarine.

2

Learn to recognize the type of food product. There is butter "sweet cream", which is made only on the basis of pasteurized cream. There is also a “sour cream”: made from the same cream that has been pasteurized, but with the addition of lactic acid microorganisms.

3

Understand that consumer packaging for butter should include a name. For example, “tea butter”, “sandwich butter”, “peasant butter”, “amateur butter”, “butter”. Pay attention when only “OIL” is written in capital letters on the wrapper. Below will be attributed, as a rule, in small print to “sandwich product” or “sandwich mass”. This oil is not real, but a mixture of animal and vegetable fats.

4

Consider the price of provisions. Natural butter cannot be cheap. In order to get 1 kg of the finished product, the production of butter involves the processing of at least 20 liters of milk. If we take into account the purchase price of 1 liter of milk in bulk and what other products are made from it, then the retail price of a kilogram of good butter will be approximately 10 packages of the cheapest retail milk.

5

The large letters GOST are not always evidence of real butter, since there are also GOSTs on margarines and spreads. Remember the numbers that must appear after the letters GOST - R 52969-2008.

6

If the oil has already been bought, then you can check it with "home" methods. The oil should be a homogeneous consistency. If it was warm, and water droplets appeared on its surface, then this is not oil. Dissolve the slice in warm water. Real oil mixes evenly, and does not decay into individual elements. The color of the oil should not be too yellow or completely white. Smell the product - butter should not smell anything.

note

Real butter should be firm to the touch. It does not stick to the package.
