The difference between the concepts of "cafe" and "restaurant" over time is becoming less noticeable. Firstly, because the owners of some cafes are trying so hard to please customers that their establishments are similar in format to restaurants. Secondly, under the influence of the US food service culture, where even fast-food points are called restaurants, we began to use this word in its broad sense. And yet, between the cafe and the restaurant in the classical sense of these types of establishments, there is a clear difference. How do they differ?

Service. In many cafes, as in restaurants, there are waiters who serve dishes, menus, clean dishes, count customers. However, they do not pay so much attention to table setting, placement of devices in accordance with etiquette, but simply monitor the cleanliness. In many cafes there are no tablecloths on the tables, while in most restaurants they are. Napkins in cafes are usually paper, and in restaurants it is customary to place linen on tables. Even in a restaurant, the waiter should understand the presented dishes to advise guests, this is usually not required in a cafe.

Variety of dishes. The menu of an average cafe has significantly fewer positions than the assortment of an average cafe (although there are exceptions). And, as a rule, the owners and chefs of the cafe rely on the most popular dishes of the cuisine that the institution offers, from time to time allowing themselves to experiment. Restaurants try to surprise the visitor with something special, often include original dishes in the menu and delve into the philosophy of the national cuisine they represent.

Guests stay time. Of course, a cafe is also not just a dining room, but a place where people come to chat and have a good time, however, in a restaurant, people on average stay longer. This is partly due to the fact that the cafe serves faster, but not only that. The restaurants often have an evening program - live music, the opportunity to dance, relax your soul.

The interior and additional amenities. In restaurants, the type of premises is usually given more time, repairs are more expensive, although there are cafes that are noteworthy in this regard. Also, restaurants often have a wardrobe, while cafes are often limited to floor hangers.
