Butcher the cabbage. Remove the top leaves and discard them. Cut the head in half, then each half into two more parts. Cut the stump (solid base). Chop each of the four parts into thin strips. The smaller the strip, the softer and more tender the resulting dish will turn out.

Clean the onion head (if you take a small one, two are better), wash in cool water. Cut the onion into half rings.

Heat the stewpan over a high heat (deep frying pan), add a couple of tablespoons of vegetable oil and fry the onion on it until soft and golden. Reduce heat and add cabbage to the pan.

Take a large cup and pour boiling water into it, add one to two tablespoons of tomato paste and mix until it is completely dissolved.

Pour the resulting tomato fluid into the cabbage, salt and mix. Close the stewpan with a lid and leave it on low heat for half an hour. After this time, open the pan, stir the cabbage and leave to simmer again. The total cooking time is approximately fifty to sixty minutes. Readiness is determined by the softness of cabbage.

Variety of stewed cabbage by adding various products to it. You can surprise your loved ones by making this dish even tastier and healthier. For example, add Bulgarian pepper thinly cut into oblong strips (you need to add it at the stage of frying the onion, it is better to take two peppers of different colors). Tomatoes also fit perfectly into this composition.

Make the dish more nutritious. Soak over half the package of beans at night, boil it until half cooked before cooking. Fry the onion, add shredded cabbage and half-cooked beans into it, simmer until all products are cooked, pour them with water and tomato paste.
