Loose, delicious mountains of cottage cheese on the market or neat packaging in the store - wherever you are going to buy it, always pay attention to the following:

  • Title. The word "curd product" means that milk protein is partially replaced by vegetable protein.
  • Color. It should be white or with a slight cream tint. If it is yellowish or brownish, this is a stale product, and if it is pinkish, it means that the cottage cheese has already deteriorated.
  • Taste. You won’t be able to try the product before buying it in the store, but there is such an opportunity on the market, and you should definitely use it. The cottage cheese's taste should be almost neutral, with a slight acidity. If it is sweet, it means sugar is added to the product, possibly to mask an unpleasant taste. Sour cottage cheese indicates that it was prepared from heavily soured yogurt.
  • Consistency. It can be appreciated visually: the product should be dense and soft.
  • Protein content. Do not be lazy and see how much protein contains 100 g of the product. Cottage cheese, in which 20% protein, is much more useful than that in which 10% protein.
  • Shelf life. Try to buy only a product with today's date and remember that cottage cheese can be stored for no more than 2-3 days.
