Defrost the carcass. If it is very stiff, it can be beaten off with an ordinary wooden mallet for meat. Cut it along. Remove the transparent rigid plate and beak. Clean the tentacles of the suction cups. They are quite edible, but too tough. Cut the carcass and tentacles into rings. Chop the onion. The bulb should be medium in size. You can cut it both in rings and straws, depending on how much you like fried onions.

Put squid rings in a pan and mix with onions. Cover the pan. Fry the squid for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally. If you like very salty foods, you can add a little salt to this dish. But usually this is not required, there is enough salt in the squid. You can add a little black pepper.

Put the onion in a frying pan and fry it until golden brown. Stir the onion constantly so that it does not burn. Stir onion and squid meat and fry for a few more minutes with the lid open.

You can put out the squid carcass. Prepare the carcass in the same way as for roasting. Separately, fry the squid and onion. Mix the ingredients in a skillet, pour water so that it covers the contents, and simmer until tender.

Canned squid tentacles can also be prepared in the same way. Cutting them is not necessary at all. But if you still want to have small pieces, then the tentacles can be cut into strips.

Useful advice

You can eat fried squid even without a side dish; fried onion in itself is a great addition. But you can also serve squid with fried potatoes.

Before frying, pieces can be rolled in the egg and breadcrumbs. Break the egg, sprinkle crackers in a bowl. Dip the squid into the egg, then into the breadcrumbs, and only then place in the pan.

Squid can also be fried on margarine.
