At first glance, it seems that it is very easy to understand a vegetarian’s diet, since this is a normal diet, from which meat is excluded. This is not entirely true - there are several types of vegetarian food, depending on the characteristics of the diet, as well as the specifics of choice by vegetarians for products that, from a biochemical point of view, are intended to replace meat.

Types of Vegetarianism

All vegetarians, for moral reasons or to maintain good health, refuse to eat meat of animals and fish. However, there are different opinions on the use of other products of animal origin. Ovo-lacto-vegetarians allow the broadest interpretation of the plant diet, adding to it bird eggs and milk, and, accordingly, derivatives of these products - cheeses, cottage cheese and so on. There are also ovo-vegetarians and lacto-vegetarians. In the first case, they recognize only eggs from animal products, in the second - only milk.

Vegetarianism is prescribed to adherents of certain religions, such as Hindus and Buddhists.

The most stringent types of vegetarianism refer to veganism - a life philosophy that denies not only eating animals, but also using their skins and furs. Vegans often refuse even honey. Some vegans make their diet even stricter. For example, raw foodists try to eat only raw plant foods, and Fructorians can only eat fruits and vegetables, which can be called plant fruits, as well as nuts.
