There are more than a hundred ways to beautifully fold a napkin for table decor. The names of these methods themselves are sometimes as exquisite as the complicated technique of obtaining an intricate figure from a plain rectangle. There is also a "Wind rose", and "Hourglass", "Ghost" and "Swan". You can fold several colored napkins at the same time, use special rings, add lace and ribbons to the napkins. The art of folding napkins is in many ways similar to origami, and in both cases it’s worth starting with the simplest figures.

1

Classic cap

Bend the napkin in half so that its wide edges are facing you, and the fold is away from you. Grasp the thumb and forefinger of the left hand on the upper left edge of the napkin, so that the tissue is between your fingers. In two turns to the right, turn the cone to the middle of the napkin. Now throw the square part of the napkin from right to left, so that you have a square in your hands and a triangle of the cone curled by you peeks out from under it. Take the corner protruding from the bottom and wrap it up. Gently straighten the base of the cone. The higher you raise the lower triangle, the more stable your “cap” will be.

2

"Love letter"

It is customary to put small souvenirs into a napkin rolled in this way.

Fold the napkin in half, and then diagonally, so that you get a triangle. The sharp corner of the triangle is looking away from you. Mentally divide the triangle in half, now divide its right half in half again. Wrap the right edge of the napkin to the middle so that the corner is on your second line. Now fold the right edge in half again, so that the edge of the napkin is in the imaginary middle. Wrap the left corner to the middle once so that the rhombus with equal edges is formed from the top of the napkin. Now you have a small corner on the right. Fold it back. Tuck the bottom third of the napkin away from you, so that as a result you get an open "envelope".

3

The classic fan.

Fold the napkin in half, fold towards you. Start folding the right half of the napkin with an "accordion", all folds are equal and no more than two centimeters each. Turn over the napkin so that the "accordion" is below, lying on the surface. Now bend the napkin again in half, again with the fold to you. Bend the upper left corner down and turn its protruding part under the napkin. Turn the accordion into a fan.

Useful advice

It is most convenient to bend figures from linen, slightly starchy napkins.
