Smell the pineapple. The smell of fruit "in the juice" resembles a subtle strawberry aroma. The pineapple, which began to deteriorate, acquires a sugary sweet smell.

Pay attention to the top of the pineapple. Thick and green, it indicates the freshness of the fruit. Pull the inner leaves. If the pineapple is ripe, they can easily be separated, and, on the contrary, if the leaves are firmly held on the base, this indicates that the fruit is unripe.

Press the pineapple with your fingers, testing it for stiffness. At the same time, the soft crust is by no means a sign of ripeness, as it might seem, but a clear evidence that the fruit is stale. Ideally, the pineapple should be very resilient. You can also get hard fruit, if all the other signs of ripeness are evident.

Pat the pineapple with your palm. A muffled sound speaks of ripeness, voiced - that the fruit is not juicy enough and, most likely, has already dried up.

The ideal color of the pineapple peel is tan. However, a slightly greenish color is also allowed. In the latter case, be aware that the fruit was ripe unripe and ripened during transport. You should not buy a pineapple of intense green color, probably it will not be sweet enough.

After the pineapple is purchased and brought home, you can verify its ripeness by cutting the fruit. A correctly selected pineapple has an intense yellow, juicy pulp inside. Pale, dry flesh is an indicator of a poor-quality product.
