How did the chips appear?

In 1853, one of the fashionable American restaurants was visited by the millionaire Cornelius Vanderbilt. He ordered potatoes, and then began to show his capricious character, sending the dish several times to the kitchen. He complained that the potatoes were cut too large.

Then the chef of this restaurant decided to play a trick on the millionaire. He cut the potatoes into the finest slices, fried them in a large amount of oil and served them on the table. How surprised he was when Vanderbilt not only did not make a scandal, but also praised the new dish very much.

After some time, the dish appeared on the restaurant’s menu, and later thin potatoes were produced in packages.

How to make chips in the oven

Manufacturers of modern chips are trying to save money, so they add a large amount of chemistry to their products. To protect yourself from all sorts of harmful additives, prepare the chips yourself. For this you need the following ingredients:

- medium-sized potatoes (4-5 pcs.);

- foil;

- vegetable oil;

- salt and spices.

Wash and peel the potato tubers. Thinly cut them into round plates, try to ensure that the thickness of the plates does not exceed 3-4 millimeters. The thicker the potato will be sliced, the longer it will cook and the less crispy it will be. If this is more convenient, you can use a vegetable cutter.

Put slices in a bowl and add vegetable oil (1 teaspoon). After mixing the contents of the bowl, drain the oil that has sunk to the bottom.

Cover the baking sheet with foil. It is advisable to cover the foil with a non-stick spray. Put the potatoes on a baking sheet in one layer.

Place the dish in the oven, heated to 200 degrees. Chips will be cooked for approximately 20-30 minutes. Control the cooking process, as its time depends on the individual characteristics of your oven.

Place ready-made chips on a napkin or paper towel to remove any remaining oil. It remains only to salt the dish and add spices at your discretion.
