This fruit, similar to a tomato and mango, got its name recently, some 47 years ago, or rather, on January 31, 1967. But this does not mean that earlier this fruit did not have a name - it did, and it sounded like a "tomato tree". But, "tomato tree" is too similar in name to "bread tree", so confusion is possible. To prevent this, they decided to give the fruit a new name tamarillo.

Pick your recipe
The fruits of tamarillo are quite large, can reach 10 centimeters in length and 5 centimeters in diameter. It is very important to choose tamarillo correctly in order to fully feel its taste. Choose dense fruits with a good, fresh stalk. Remember another unspoken rule for choosing a good fruit: give preference to fruits grown in New Zealand. It is believed that it is there that the most fragrant specimens grow.
How to eat raw Tamarillo
Wash the fruit under cool water. Cut the tamarillo in half with a sharp knife along. Sprinkle the pulp with sugar, and then scoop the fruit straight out of the peel with a spoon. Do not eat peel that will be bitter and unpleasant in taste.
How to cook tamarillo
Rinse the fruit and place it in a heat-resistant glass or ceramic bowl. Pour boiling water over it. Use enough water to cover the fruit completely.
Allow the fruit to remain in hot water for 3-4 minutes. Drain the hot water and replace it with cold water to cool tamarillo. Pick up a part of the peel with a knife and remove it from the entire fruit.
