You will need

    • malt;
    • sugar;
    • water;
    • berries;
    • bread;
    • bottled beer.

Instruction manual

1

Decide what you need yeast for. For example, different cultures are used to make beer and butter dough, and the rules for growing them differ from each other.

2

To get bread yeast, take the berries that they contain, such as grapes or plums. Rub them in mashed potatoes and add water and sugar to them in a ratio of 3: 1: 1. Leave the resulting mixture in a warm place for a week. After removing the foam, you can dry the resulting mixture and use in baking. Instead of berries, you can also take bread, but in this case you will not be able to bring out wild yeast cultures.

3

For brewing yeast, find the right starting material. It may be a beer intended for ripening in a bottle. Most often it is found in German, English or Belgian manufacturers. Naturally, beer should not be pasteurized.

4

Add wort to a small amount of the selected beverage to stimulate the growth of the appropriate type of yeast. It is prepared from ground malt (sprouted barley), cooked with added water and subsequently filtered. Wort in the first stage will need only a few milliliters. Put the bottle in a warm place and wait for the fermentation process to begin. After that, you can add more wort. As a result of cultivation, the yeast should increase in volume by at least ten times. After that, you can use the resulting culture for making beer.

note

When preparing yeast, be clean, wash all dishes thoroughly, and if necessary, even treat them with alcohol. This is necessary in order for your yeast to develop in your culture, and not other microorganisms that you do not need.

Useful advice

Home-grown yeast is a long and often expensive process, and for the first time there is a great chance that you will not succeed. Therefore, think about how rational this is, because delicious and healthy dishes can be prepared with factory yeast.
