You will need

    • beets and carrots;
    • water;
    • pan with a lid;
    • brush for vegetables;
    • a spoon;
    • colander;
    • knife or fork.

Instruction manual

1

Choose hard carrots without black spots and cracks, as well as beets without visible damage and signs of rot with a smooth, dense, reddish skin. It is advisable to acquire root crops of the same size, not too large and not too small.

2

Take the right amount of vegetables and wash in cool running water. Next, using a vegetable brush, scrape the beets and carrots well, and then rinse them. Remember, peeling vegetables is undesirable. And also, without the need, you do not need to cut the root vegetables before cooking, because when the vegetables are chopped, the area of their contact with water increases and, as a result, a significant part of the nutrients is washed out.

3

Put the beets and carrots in the pan. Then pour boiling water (its amount should be measured in advance). Water should cover the roots by about 1 finger. Next, cover the pot with vegetables and place on the strongest fire.

4

Wait for the water to boil and reduce the heat to minimum. Next, remove the lid and stir the vegetables regularly. This must be done so that the beets and carrots do not stick to the bottom of the pan.

5

Boil root vegetables for 20-25 minutes. Then check the availability of carrots. To do this, use a fork or knife. If the fork (knife) enters the vegetable easily, then it is ready. Try for a salad. Remove the carrots from the pan and continue to cook the beets for another 30-40 minutes, remembering to check its readiness from time to time using a knife or fork.

6

Drain all the water from the pan and let the root crops cool. You can also dump the beets in a colander and pour cold water - so it will be easier to clean.

Useful advice

Beets and carrots are self-producing vegetables (green beans, green beans, potatoes, asparagus), so they should be removed from the stove a little earlier than fully prepared.

Do not trim the beet root to the base, because in this case, it may lighten during cooking.
