You will need

  • - mill for crushing cones;

  • - sieves with small and large cells;

  • - oilcloth or tarpaulin;

  • - plastic containers, glass jars, refrigerator.

Instruction manual

1

Burn the cones of Siberian or Korean cedar over an open fire and store in bulk in a dry place and cover with a canopy. If you have only one or two cones, select the nuts from them manually. If there are more nuts, then crush the cones over the tarpaulin spread on the ground or use a primitive mill (box with rollers), separate the nuts from the fragments and debris using several sieves with different cell sizes.

2

Dry the nuts extracted from the cones over the fire, laying them on a piece of tin, mix the nuts, make sure that they do not burn, store the dried nuts in a dry place on a canvas and under the canopy, do not forget to mix them from time to time.

3

Use another method if you dry nuts at home: sprinkle them with a layer of 15-20 centimeters in a dry room on oilcloth or tarpaulin, thoroughly mix the first days every day.

4

Put the unpeeled cedar kernels in a bag of canvas or any other natural fabric, hide in a dark place, dry, for example, in a closet and store for no longer than 6 months. Make sure that insects and rodents, birds do not have access to the place of storage of nuts.

5

Put the peeled kernels of pine nuts in a plastic container or plastic bag and put in the refrigerator, make sure that the nuts and bags are not wet, keep the peeled pine nuts in the refrigerator for no longer than 1-2 months.

6

Use a different storage method: put peeled kernels of pine nuts in glass jars with tight but not sealed lids, like those that store cereals and spices, put the jars in a dark place with room temperature and relative humidity no more than 55-65%.

7

Keep peeled pine nuts in this way for no more than 2-3 months, otherwise they may lose all their beneficial nutritional properties, it is especially important that neither the nuts nor glass jars are wet or even slightly moist.
